MOT Check for AI assistants
Ask Claude, ChatGPT or any assistant that supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP) about a UK vehicle's MOT, and it answers from official DVSA records. Free, with no account or sign-in.
Connector URL:
https://motcheck.io/mcp
What it can do
- MOT status: whether a vehicle has a valid MOT, when it expires (or when a newer vehicle's first MOT is due), and the result, mileage, advisories and defects from its most recent test.
- MOT history: every test with its date, result, recorded mileage and the advisories, minor defects and failures found, plus a check for whether the recorded mileage ever went down between tests.
- Vehicle lookup: from a number plate, the vehicle's make, model, colour, year and fuel type, whether it has a valid MOT, and whether it is taxed and when the tax is due.
Every answer includes a link to the vehicle's full record on motcheck.io.
Add it to Claude
In Claude on the web or desktop, open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector. Name it MOT Check, paste https://motcheck.io/mcp as the URL and save. No authentication is needed.
In Claude Code, run:
claude mcp add --transport http motcheck https://motcheck.io/mcp
Add it to ChatGPT
Search for MOT Check in the ChatGPT app directory. Until the listing is live, you can add it in developer mode: in Settings, open Apps, turn on developer mode under the advanced settings, then create an app with https://motcheck.io/mcp as the server URL and no authentication.
Other assistants
Any MCP client that supports remote servers over streamable HTTP can connect to https://motcheck.io/mcp. There are no API keys. MOT Check is also listed in the official MCP Registry as io.motcheck/mot.

Data sources and permitted use
MOT Check is operated by Bluestratus Ltd. The connector returns data from three sources:
- MOT test history: the DVSA MOT History API, the official UK government record of MOT tests, accessed with a registered DVSA API key.
- Tax and MOT status: the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service.
- Vehicle details (make, model, colour, year): HPI, under a commercial data licence.
Bluestratus Ltd is licensed to use this data for motcheck.io, including displaying it publicly and supplying it through our own API and this MCP service. Each source is used under its own terms. The same data powers motcheck.io and the MOT Check apps.
MOT data: contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
Data and privacy
The connector only reads public MOT data about vehicles. MOT records contain nothing about a vehicle's keeper. We receive the registrations the assistant looks up and standard request data, used to answer, apply daily usage limits and fix faults. We never see your conversation or account. See our Privacy Statement for details.
Limits
UK-registered vehicles only. Usage is subject to fair daily limits. Results reflect DVSA records at the time of the lookup.
Questions
Does it cost anything?
No. The connector is free and needs no account. A full vehicle history check (finance, write-off, stolen) is a paid product on motcheck.io, and the assistant only mentions it when it is relevant, for example when you are buying a car.
Which vehicles are covered?
Cars, vans and motorcycles registered in Great Britain or Northern Ireland. Vehicles registered in other countries have no MOT record.
Why does a new car have no MOT history?
A vehicle's first MOT is due three years after it was first registered, so a newer vehicle has no tests yet. The connector tells the assistant when that first MOT is due.
Where does the data come from?
MOT test records come from the DVSA MOT History API, the official UK government record. Tax and MOT status come from the DVLA, and vehicle details from HPI under licence. See Data sources and permitted use above.
